Welcome to our contingency plan for Puffin class

This page details learning available for any children who begin self isolating, as per government guidelines. We hope it gives you some insight into a day in our Puffin classroom so that the children can have some continuity of learning should they not be able to attend school due to Covid-19.

In addition to the learning posted on this page, The Oak National Academy has lots of lessons and resources to support children's learning at home. Please follow the links.

As well as this, your child/ren will be invited to join one live lesson and one well-being session per week on Microsoft Teams.

A typical Reception class day is very different to other classes. We use a combination of formal teaching, guided learning and learning through play provision. Our formal teaching consists of 20 minutes of formal phonics teaching and 20 minutes of formal maths teaching each day. We also take part in our Talking and Thinking Floorbook time. Other than this reception children need lots of provision for writing, reading and counting through their play. We would expect them to read their reading books for about 10 minutes a day. It is vital that children have opportunities to enjoy looking at books and have them read to them. Some other activities include crafts, construction, role play, learning about the world in which they live and developing their relationships, self confidence and well being plus many more.

Reception Talking and Thinking Floorbook - Autumn 2 Dark

The next theme we will learn about is 'Dark'.Through this theme we will see where the children's interests lay. It is likely we will learn about noctural animals and/or space. The children will also learn about what people do when it is dark and what devices we have to help us see in the dark. The children will ask their own questions and then we will guide them to finding out information from books, the internet or people.

Our Year 1 children follow more of a formal structure to their learning. This is an example of a timetable they would follow.
