Woodpecker class Spring Term

Important information

We have PE on Thursday and Friday. For this half term one session will be outside and one indoors (Gymnastics). Please come to school dressed in your PE kit.

Every week the children will bring home their reading books and their reading diary. They must return these books every Friday and they will be changed. 

Everyday the children must bring in their water bottle filled with water only please.


We will read many different texts in our class. Here are a few of them that we will enjoy in the first half term:

Each maths lesson will begin with my maths to recap previous knowledge. We also follow Big Maths which teaches number work and mental recall of number facts. For our maths lessons we follow the White Rose scheme of work. The objectives that the children are aiming to achieve by the end of their year are attached below.

We have a daily English session, which incoporates writing and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar).  We also have a daily phonics lesson and whole class reading.

Please see below our texts and writing opportunities; these are subject to change. We also provide opportunities for reading and writing across the curriculum.


Throughout the year we will be learning about the four seasons and their distinguishing features.

This term our Science units are entitled, 'Identifying Animals' and 'Growth and Survival'.

Theme - Spring term

Through our theme 'What is so special about London?' this term we will develop our History/Geog/ DT/Art skills. Our History and Geography Knowledge organisers can be seen attached below.
